CME Silver Futures Launches 24/7 Trading Amid Surging Precious Metals Demand
CME Group has launched 24/7 trading for its 100-ounce silver futures contract, mirroring the success of its always-on gold offering. The inaugural weekend session saw over $15 million in notional value traded.
This move follows the introduction of 24/7 trading for 1-ounce gold futures on July 24, 2026, which has seen more than 140,000 contracts trade during weekend sessions, totaling over $600 million in notional value.
The expansion of round-the-clock precious metals trading is underpinned by a surge in industry-wide demand, with CME's metals business hitting an all-time high in the first half of 2026. Silver futures averaged a record $50 billion in notional value traded daily over the period.
