CNG Tanks Cylinders Market Sees Rapid Expansion Amid Growing Demand for Low-Emission Fuels
The global Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) tanks cylinders market has been expanding rapidly, driven by growing demand for lower-emission fuels and increasing adoption of natural-gas vehicles. According to DataM Intelligence, the market reached $1.40 billion in 2025 and is estimated to reach $2.45 billion by 2033, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 5.4% during 2026-2033.
The market is shifting beyond its basic energy-storage role toward strategic reliability and emissions-management solutions for commercial transportation, fleet operators, and gas distribution systems. Lightweight composite cylinders, higher storage capacity, stricter safety requirements, and growing interest in lower-emission fuels are changing supplier qualification, while the ability to support CNG, renewable natural gas (RNG), and future hydrogen-linked infrastructure is creating new investment and expansion opportunities.
Hexagon Agility has signed a three-year agreement with IVECO BUS covering CNG fuel systems and Type 4 carbon-fiber cylinders across IVECO's CNG bus range. The company received an approximately $100 million order for Mobile Pipeline modules from Certarus, valued at US$7 million for high-pressure Type 4 carbon-fiber cylinders from a commercial aerospace customer.
The market is also benefiting from the shift toward lightweight composite cylinders, which can improve vehicle payload, range, and fuel efficiency compared with conventional steel designs. Suppliers are increasingly operating across CNG, RNG, and hydrogen technologies, allowing them to participate in multiple stages of the energy transition.
