Coastal Bend LNG Begins Permitting Process for Texas Gulf Coast LNG Facility
Coastal Bend LNG has kicked off its formal permitting process for an ambitious liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facility along the Texas Gulf Coast. The company submitted a request to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to initiate the pre-filing review, which is expected to conclude in early 2027.
The proposed facility will have four liquefaction trains capable of processing 4.8 million tons per annum (MMtpy) each, for a total nameplate capacity of 19.2 MMtpy. Additionally, the project includes integrated carbon capture facilities that allow Coastal Bend LNG to contract transport and geological sequestration of carbon dioxide.
Nick Flores, Chief Executive Officer at Coastal Bend LNG, said: 'This is a key milestone for Coastal Bend LNG and reflects our disciplined engineering, commercial, and regulatory execution.' Keith Shoemaker, Chief Commercial Officer, noted that the location on the Texas Gulf Coast offers three unique advantages: direct connectivity to Texas's abundant natural gas supplies, proximity to favorable geology for carbon sequestration, and flexibility to serve both Asian and European markets.
