Columbiana County Oil Production on Record Pace
Oil production in Columbiana County is on pace to break records, according to recent data from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. Through the first half of 2026, horizontal wells exploring the Utica/Point Pleasant shale formation produced nearly one million barrels of oil, with a total of 996,723 barrels pumped out over the first two quarters of this year.
The county's approximately 200 wells have already surpassed last year's production numbers, which yielded 1.431 million barrels for the full year in 2025. In 2024, Columbiana County produced 1.494 million barrels of oil.
A significant portion of this year's production came from five wells at the Norris CL pad in West Township, owned by EOG Ohio LLC, a subsidiary of Houston-based EOG Resources. These wells combined to produce over half of the county's total output, with the most productive well, the Norris CL 6H, pumping out 60,070 barrels during the quarter.
