Commodity Prices Soar Amid Adverse Weather, El Nino Risks
Global agricultural commodity prices have surged in recent times, with wheat, cotton, rubber, palm oil, soybean, and sugar among the key gainers. Adverse weather conditions and El Nino risks are contributing to these price increases. Higher fuel and fertiliser costs, biofuel mandates, and low grain inventories are also driving prices to multi-month and multi-year highs.
Festive demand is expected ahead, which could lead to food inflation being the next big worry. With wheat prices reaching a 14-week high and sugar prices hitting a 26-week peak, investors are on high alert for potential price corrections. However, with many commodities trading at or near record levels, it remains to be seen whether these prices can sustain themselves in the long run.
