Conservative Candidate Criticizes Farm Bill While Claiming Subsidy Benefits

Conservative candidate Art Halvorson has been vocal about his opposition to the recently passed House farm bill, calling it 'total deception' and saying that it's mostly about food stamps.

Halvorson owns two farms in Pennsylvania and Iowa, where he says some of his land was enrolled in a subsidy called the Conservation Reserve Program. This program provides a 10-15 year contract with the owner not to produce on the land, supposedly to protect the health and environment of the land.

However, Halvorson claims that this program is detrimental and creates market distortions by encouraging farmers not to produce. He also opposes an ethanol subsidy that benefits his Iowa farm's corn production.
