Construction Input Prices Rise Amid Volatile Energy Costs
The latest federal producer price data indicates that construction input prices increased by 0.1% in July compared to June.
This modest monthly movement did not eliminate the broader increase in construction costs experienced over the past year, with overall construction input prices rising 7.4% year-over-year and nonresidential construction inputs increasing 7.2% during this period.
The data also shows that energy prices moved in different directions during the month: crude petroleum prices declined by 11.9%, while unprocessed energy materials fell by 7.4%. In contrast, natural gas prices rose by 10.4%.
