Consumers Energy Unveils 20-Year Plan for Michigan's Energy Supply
Consumers Energy has unveiled its 20-year plan for Michigan's energy supply. The proposal combines natural gas, solar, wind, and battery storage to meet rising energy needs in the state. According to Chris Fultz, Consumers Energy's senior vice president of electric supply, 'Michiganders count on us to power their lives 24/7/365.'
The plan calls for adding over 19 gigawatts (GW) of solar, wind, and battery storage resources by 2040. It also includes the construction of two new fast-starting natural gas plants with a combined generating capacity of 1.4 GW in Bay and Genesee counties.
The plan aims to keep cost increases below 3 percent while adding new energy resources. Consumers Energy estimates that its investments in natural gas, wind, solar, and battery storage will create thousands of construction jobs and hundreds of permanent positions.
