Copper Powers Mining Stock Surge to $2.4 Trillion
Global mining stocks have surged in August, with their combined market capitalization rising to $2.375 trillion from $2.169 trillion just seven trading sessions prior.
This growth has outpaced big tech for the year, with copper and base metals being the primary drivers of this increase.
Copper prices have repeatedly set new records on the Comex, while diversified miners in the MINING.COM TOP 50 have added $246 billion in market value since the start of the year.
This represents a 24% gain for these companies, whereas gold, silver, and royalty companies have only seen their market value increase by $18 billion, or 2.6%.
The sector's recovery is not without its challenges, however, as it remains 14% below its February peak of $2.748 trillion.
