Copper Price Surges to Record High: What it Means for ASX Copper Shares
Copper prices have reached an all-time high in London, with the three-month price closing at US$14,415.50 per tonne on Monday.
This represents a gain of 0.57% and a 17% increase over the past year.
The metal's demand is driven by structural factors, including its use in electricity grids, data centres, and renewable energy generation, which consume significant volumes.
Supply is harder to meet due to the time it takes to build new mines, often taking a decade or more.
BHP has identified copper as a key driver of its growth and has a project pipeline across Chile, Australia, and Argentina that aims to lift production by around 40% by FY35.
However, not all ASX copper shares will benefit equally from the record price. Costs, grades, and operational reliability play a crucial role in determining which companies can convert the price into cash.
