Copper Prices Soar to New Highs, Sparking Interest in Copper Stocks
Copper prices have hit record highs, exceeding $14,000 per tonne. This has sparked interest in companies related to copper infrastructure and production.
The UK market is seeing a mix of commodity exposure, electrification, and AI datacentre demand reshaping parts of the sector. Three stocks linked to this news are Anglo American (LSE:AAL), Central Asia Metals (AIM:CAML), and Antofagasta (LSE:ANTO).
Anglo American is a global mining group with significant copper exposure, alongside premium iron ore and diamonds. The company's market cap is around £45.7 billion, making it a large-scale operation.
Central Asia Metals is a mid-sized copper-linked producer with income appeal. Its Kounrad operation in Kazakhstan contributes US$158 million of revenue, while the Sasa mine in North Macedonia adds roughly US$118 million.
Antofagasta is one of the purest copper plays on the FTSE, generating almost all its revenue from Chilean copper mining. The company's market cap is approximately £39.8 billion.
