Copper Prices Soar to New Record Amid Tariff Fears
Copper prices have reached an all-time high on the London Metal Exchange (LME), fueled by anticipation of US tariffs and localized shortages.
The three-month futures contract gained as much as 0.8% to reach $14,533 a ton, surpassing the previous record set in January.
This rally is part of a longer-term trend, with copper prices up 17% this year and 47% over the past 12 months.
The supply-demand mismatch has been driven by the world's aging fleet of big mines struggling to meet demand from data centers, renewable energy, and power grids.
