Copper Thieves Strike Next to Police Station at Caseyville Church

Copper thieves have struck again in Caseyville, Illinois, targeting St. Stephen Catholic Church, located right next to the police station.

Reverend James Fee reported that a copper downspout was stolen when he heard a loud clang coming from outside his window on the second floor.

'It says people are in need,' Rev. Fee said, highlighting the church's blessing box where people can give what they can and take what they need.

Caseyville Police officer Michael Price noted that smaller lengths of copper had been stolen previously, even from a gated area at the church.

The police department has been tracking down suspects by checking salvage yards and monitoring for individuals on bikes with trailers or milk crates to scavenge materials.
