Copper Town Podcast Explores Zambia's Mining Boom

Radio Workshop, a South African organization that trains young reporters to make powerful audio stories, has released a new narrative podcast called Copper Town. The six-episode series is set in Kitwe, Zambia, and follows young people who are betting their futures on the copper mining boom.

The Copper Town podcast was produced by Naomi Gruen and Dashen Moodley, with Kerry Donahue editing the story. Radio Workshop is also releasing a video tutorial series that walks listeners through how to make a narrative podcast from scratch.

Narrative audio storytelling has gained popularity in recent years, but it requires a lot of time and effort to produce high-quality stories. The Copper Town podcast took around 30-40 hours of tape to create a single 39-minute episode.
