Coppernico Metals Clears Major Permit Hurdle for Expanded Drilling in Peruvian Project
Coppernico Metals Inc., a copper explorer, has cleared a major permit hurdle in its Peruvian subsidiary's Sombrero Project. The company received approval for an expanded drilling permit after filing an Environmental Impact Assessment - Semi-detailed (EIA-Sd) in November 2025.
The approved EIA-Sd expands the company's authorized drill area by nearly 2,218 hectares, from approximately 904 hectares to approximately 3,122 hectares. The number of authorized drill platforms increased from 38 to 181, and the number of authorized drill holes rose from 49 to 300.
The expansion supports the use of multiple drill rigs and covers multiple exploration targets, including Fierrazo, Corrales, Chumpi, Escondida, Huachana, and Tipicancha. The Category II approval allows Coppernico to design an exploration program across multiple target areas and adjust drill locations and target sequencing as new geological information is obtained.
Copper futures have been climbing, trading at $6.6451 per pound according to Trading Economics, a 6.58% increase over the preceding month and a 48.05% gain over the preceding year. The market data provider cited signs of tightening global supply and expectations for constrained mine output.
