Corn Belt Rain System Brings Widespread Moisture Amid Critical Growth Stage
A much-needed rain system is forecasted to bring widespread moisture to the Corn Belt during a critical crop growth stage. The system, which will move through late this week and weekend, is expected to drop at least an inch of rain in a large area.
The increased rainfall forecasts are due to model updates from July 28, which initially showed unimpressive precipitation. However, the models have since increased their predictions, showing a trend of more widespread and heavier rain.
Crop conditions have been declining this month due to drier and hotter conditions. Corn good-to-excellent ratings dropped four percentage points this week, while soybeans declined by three percentage points.
The system is expected to bring significant totals, with some areas potentially receiving over two inches of rain. The rainfall will not be limited to the main band of precipitation, with scattered thunderstorms also possible in other areas.
