Corn Crop Falls Short of Expectations, According to Pro Farmer Tour
The Pro Farmer Crop Tour is currently underway across the Corn Belt, providing scouts with firsthand information on this year's corn crop. According to Oliver Sloup of Blue Line Futures, who spoke with RFD News from the eastern leg of the tour, the crop is 'middle of the road' and falling short of expectations.
Indiana's results came in at 183.54 bushels per acre, about 10 bushels below last year and 2% below the three-year average. Early samples in Illinois were running near or slightly below the five-year average of 195 to 200 bushels per acre for the districts being surveyed.
Sloup noted that lower plant populations have been a common theme, potentially reflecting wet conditions earlier in the growing season. Results from Nebraska also came in below last year and the three-year average.
