Corn Ethanol Sets Sail as Shipping Industry Seeks Sustainable Fuels
A record corn crop in the US has led to an important question: where will all that corn go?
The National Corn Growers Association (NCGA) is working on generating new demand for corn in emerging sectors, including the maritime industry.
Ethanol produced from corn can help meet the need for alternative fuels in shipping, which accounts for 3% of global greenhouse gas emissions.
The NCGA believes that capturing just 10% of the global maritime fuel market could translate to 3 billion bushels of demand, close to last year's total US corn exports.
