Corn Futures Break $5 Barrier on Strong Demand and Export Concerns
Corn futures have surpassed $5 for the first time in 18 months, driven by strong demand, particularly from the beef sector. According to Guy Allen, an ag economist at Kansas State University, good animal protein demand is a key factor contributing to higher prices.
The U.S. recorded record corn exports last year and is expected to do so again this year, further supporting prices. Additionally, production and export concerns in Europe are also contributing to price increases.
Allen advises producers to take advantage of the current market conditions and market their grain. He also suggests considering an options strategy due to volatility in commodity markets.
