Corn Futures Close Higher Despite Early Session Pullback
Corn futures closed Monday's session with gains, despite pulling back from early highs. The CmdtyView national average Cash Corn price rose by $0.075 to $4.63.
The US corn crop is advancing through its growth stages: as of August 23, 86% of the crop was in the dough stage, with 45% dented and 6% listed as mature. Condition ratings fell 3%, standing at 47% in good to excellent condition according to the Brugler500 index, which dropped 5 points to 348.
Monday's Export Inspections report showed corn shipments at 1.296 MMT (51.03 mbu) for the week of August 20, a decline of 33.32% from the previous week and 3.16% below the same period last year. The largest destinations were Mexico, Japan, and Colombia.
Pro Farmer estimates the US national yield at 173.2 pba, with production at 15.344 bbu. Agrural's estimates for the second corn crop in Brazil as of Thursday showed it was only 92% harvested, behind the average pace of 98%. The first corn crop for 2026/27 was estimated to be 2% planted, slower than the 3.2% pace from last year.
