Corn Futures Continue Rise into Weekend with Specs Holding Record Long Position
Corn futures have continued to rise into the weekend, with prices settling between 1 and 4 cents higher on Friday. The September contract rallied by 28 ¼ cents for the week, while December saw a gain of 28 cents.
The CmdtyView national average Cash Corn price also increased, rising 2 1/4 cents to $4.84 1/4. According to the CFTC's data from August 25, managed money in corn futures and options added a total of 126,008 contracts to their net long position.
This brings the net long position to 376,513 contracts, which is the largest since April 2022 but still falls short of the record set on Tuesday by over 52,000 contracts. The specs held a total of 465,500 contracts of outright longs by Tuesday, marking the highest on record.
Export Sales data shows corn commitments for 2025/26 at 87.758 MMT, which is 102% of the USDA export projection and in line with last year's sale pace. Accumulated sales new crop for 2026/27 were at 12.458 MMT, down 33.6% from the same week a year ago but still the fourth largest for the current week going back 30 years.
