Corn Futures Rise as Export Shipments Surge to New Heights
Corn futures closed August on a high note, rising by 1 to 3.5 cents per contract. The recent data from the Crop Progress report indicates that 62% of the US corn crop is in the dough stage, with 62% dented and 13% mature. Despite some condition ratings slipping, the Brugler500 index dropped another point to 347.
The Export Inspections report showed a significant increase in corn shipments, up 13.11% from the previous week and 6.12% above the same period last year. Mexico was the largest recipient of corn, receiving 510,453 MT, followed by South Korea with 264,474 MT and Japan with 173,086 MT.
AgRural estimates the Brazilian second corn crop at 96% harvested in the center south region, lagging behind last year's pace. The first corn crop for that region is reported to be 11% planted for the 2026/27 season.
