Corn futures surged higher on August 24, 2026, after the Pro Farmer Crop Tour's national corn yield estimate came in at 173.2 bushels per acre, sharply below the USDA's most recent estimate of 180.7 bushels per acre.

Mike Castle, senior commodities economist with StoneX, attributed the increase to this significantly lower than expected yield estimate.

Corn futures were up 5½¢ at $5.14 per bushel before 9 a.m. CT.

Soybean futures, however, told a different story, with November soybeans down 8¾¢ at $12.30¾ per bushel.
