Corn Harvest Gains Momentum as Soybeans Reach 6% Completion
The latest USDA crop progress report shows an improvement in corn crop conditions, with 57% of the crop now rated good-to-excellent. Analysts had expected a 1-point drop, but individual trade guesses ranged between 55% and 56%. Nearly half (42%) of the crop is now fully mature, versus the prior five-year average of 38%. Harvest progress has increased from 5% completion a week ago to 8%, slightly ahead of both 2025's pace of 7% and the prior five-year average of 6%.
Soybean quality ratings remained unchanged this past week, with 58% of the crop still in good-to-excellent condition. Physiologically, 44% of the crop is now dropping leaves, up from 26% a week ago and moderately ahead of the prior five-year average of 37%. Louisiana (59%) and Mississippi (50%) are leading the charge so far with soybean harvest progress.
