Corn Prices Break Above $5 Per Bushel Amid Global Market Uncertainty
Corn prices have broken above $5 per bushel for the first time in recent history. According to Cassidy Walter, commodity markets and agribusiness reporter at Successful Farming, December corn ended the day up 5½¢ at $5.03½ per bushel.
The market is currently driven by technicals and outside factors, as fundamental news has been scarce. Karl Setzer, partner at Consus Ag Consulting, noted that weather forecasts for the Corn Belt are mixed, with some models showing moderating conditions while others predict heat returning to the Midwest next week.
Crop stress continues to be a concern, with the Pro Farmer Crop Tour pointing out issues in various regions. Setzer stated that this is generating risk buying in commodities and has led to increased demand for U.S. grains due to the Black Sea region being shut off from the global market.
