Corn Prices Set to Drive Up Swine Finishing Feed Costs in 2027
According to Purdue's Center for Commercial Agriculture, swine finishing feed costs are expected to increase due to higher corn prices in 2027. Ag economist Michael Langemeier predicts that finishing feed costs will be 7-10% higher than 2025 through the end of this year. This is equivalent to a 6-9% increase compared to earlier this year.
The feed cost index is expected to be even higher in 2027, with corn prices well above $5. Langemeier notes that if US corn yields are lower than 178, corn prices could increase by 50 cents or more, while a higher yield would result in a 50 cent drop in corn prices.
Langemeier emphasizes the importance of final crop production numbers and global weather patterns on commodity markets heading into 2027. He notes that any significant change in these factors will have a substantial impact on feed costs.
