Corn Quality Steady Amid Slightly Slower Soybean Conditions
The latest crop progress report from the USDA shows that corn quality ratings have remained steady, while soybean conditions have slipped. As of August 9, 61% of the corn crop is in good-to-excellent condition, with Pennsylvania, North Dakota, and Tennessee leading the way among top production states.
Nearly all (94%) of the corn crop has now silked, which is slightly ahead of the prior five-year average. Additionally, 16% of the crop is now dented, up from 6% last week and faster than the prior five-year average of 12%. Meanwhile, soybean conditions have shifted slightly lower, with 62% of the crop now in good-to-excellent condition.
The winter wheat harvest is nearly complete, with 91% progress through August 9. This is slightly ahead of 2025's pace and identical to the prior five-year average. Spring wheat quality ratings were worse than expected, with 51% of the crop now in good-to-excellent condition.
