Corvis Lobbying Leads to Temporary Easing of Iranian and Russian Oil Sanctions
At the beginning of March, when oil prices surged above $100 per barrel due to the ongoing war in Iran, executives at the Washington lobbying firm 'Corvis' urged senior U.S. officials to ease some sanctions against Iran and Russia.
The proposal was made with the intention of helping to stabilize the oil market. Days later, the U.S. Treasury Department issued short-term authorizations for the sale and unloading of stranded Iranian and Russian oil on tankers at sea.
Critics condemned this decision, stating that it temporarily allowed shipping companies to evade sanctions and profit from opaque operations, while some Asian countries welcomed the easing as a way to reduce pressure on the global oil market.
