Costco Raises Motor Oil Price Amid Global Supply Shortages

Costco has raised the price of its Kirkland Signature full-synthetic motor oil by about $30, from around $30 to $58 per 10-quart case. This change affects the SAE 5W-30 and high mileage versions of the lubricant.

The increased cost is due to a supply shortage coupled with higher demand, caused by the nearly 7-month Iran-U.S. War and the blockade in the Strait of Hormuz, which has disrupted oil imports to the U.S. According to Motor Biscuit, this will particularly affect individuals who do their own oil changes.

In addition to the price increase, Costco is also limiting purchases of the motor oil. The product details on its website state that there is a limit of 1 transaction per membership, with a maximum of 2 units every 7 days.
