Costco Raises Motor Oil Prices Amid Ongoing Middle East Tensions
Costco has increased the price of its Kirkland Signature full-synthetic motor oil 5-quart two pack to around $58, up from approximately $30 last year. The wholesale club is also limiting customers to purchasing only two boxes per week.
The price hike comes as oil prices continue to rise due to ongoing tensions in the Middle East. Brent crude hit a high of over $109 on Monday morning, and the US imports more than 40% of its Group III base oils from the region.
As a result, other motor oil retailers such as Walmart, Amazon, and AutoZone may also follow suit by increasing their prices or setting purchase limits. Costco did not immediately respond to requests for comment on this potential scenario.
