Cotton Futures See Broad Gains Despite October Weakness
Cotton futures continued to gain strength on Thursday, with most months posting higher prices. The exception was October, which slipped by three points. This trend follows a week of export sales data showing an uptick in demand for US cotton. In the latest week, China led the charge with 15,500 bales purchased, followed closely by Vietnam with 12,300 bales.
The numbers indicate a growing appetite for American cotton, particularly from key buyers like China and Vietnam. This is reflected in the increase of shipments to these countries, with Vietnam taking delivery of 96,300 bales and Pakistan receiving 42,700 bales. The Cotlook A Index also rose by 160 points on Wednesday, reaching 89.60 cents.
The Adjusted World Price dipped by 155 points to 63.82 cents per pound, but the overall trend in cotton futures remains positive. With the US dollar index up and crude oil prices rising, investors may be looking for safe-haven assets like commodities to hedge their bets. As always, traders should keep a close eye on market developments and adjust their strategies accordingly.
