Crimea Utility Rates Set to Soar Amid Power Outages

Authorities in Crimea and Sevastopol have announced plans to raise utility rates starting October 1, despite ongoing power and water outages. In Sevastopol, heating, water, sewage, and waste collection rates may increase by 13.8%, electricity rates by 11.3%, and natural gas rates by 13.8%. In Crimea, rate hikes for heating, water, and waste collection could reach 14%, while electricity and natural gas rates would rise by 11.3% and 10.1% respectively.

These increases come as residents in the region continue to struggle with food price rises, which have forced many to travel to neighboring regions in search of cheaper groceries. Fuel shortages persist, leading to a sharp increase in food costs. Russian authorities acknowledge the problem and are monitoring the situation, documenting cases of unjustified price hikes.

Earlier reports indicated that stores in Crimea were operating on generators after the July energy crisis. Fuel shortages have led to disruptions in shipments from Russia, causing retailers to experience difficulties in restocking essential goods. Some retail chains are preparing to close due to transportation challenges and a lack of access to key routes like the Kerch Bridge.
