Croatia-Hungary Gas Interconnection Capacity Doubles by 2026
Croatia and Hungary are strengthening their energy ties by upgrading the capacity of the gas interconnection between them. The gas transmission system operators of Croatia and Hungary, Plinacro and FGSZ, have signed a joint statement to increase the capacity of the Drávaszerdahely/Donji Miholjac interconnection point for gas transit from Croatia to Hungary.
The upgrade will enable larger quantities of natural gas to be transmitted between the two countries, increasing security of supply and stability in the regional energy system. The current capacity of 200,000 Sm3/h will be doubled to 400,000 Sm3/h by December 31, 2026.
According to Ivica Arar, President of the Board of Plinacro, the agreement confirms the long-standing successful cooperation between FGSZ and Plinacro. The upgrade will also enable an increase in capacity and availability of gas from Croatia, further strengthening stability of supply to countries in the region connected via transmission systems.
Szabolcs I. Ferencz, Chairman of the Board and CEO of FGSZ, said that the agreement is set to double the currently available technical capacity to receive gas from Croatia in the near future, which will strengthen diversification and security of supply for Hungary and the wider region.
