Crop Tour Scouts Find Variable Yields Amid Heat Stress
Crop Tour scouts in Nebraska found variable yields and signs of heat stress on corn during their sweep across the state. Soybean pod counts also varied, but seemed to indicate that late rains could have a positive impact. In Indiana and Illinois, eastern leg scouts reported flooding and water damage, with some routes showing improved yields as they moved west.
The first day of the Crop Tour saw results affirming the toll heat and dry weather had taken on crops in South Dakota. Meanwhile, corn yields and pod counts in Ohio raised questions about the eastern Corn Belt's ability to make up for problems in the west.
Nebraska may be able to outperform lowered expectations, while Indiana could pick up the slack. The results of Day 2 will be revealed tonight at 7:55 p.m. CT.
