Crude Oil Plunges 7%, Marking Sharpest Decline in Weeks Amid Reassessed Global Demand
Crude oil prices plummeted by 7% on a single trading session to $84.14 per barrel, marking one of the sharpest declines in recent weeks. This significant drop erased some of the gains made earlier this year, although oil prices remain higher than they were at the beginning of the year.
Despite the sharp decline, crude oil is still up 18.86% over the past month, 46.45% since the start of the year, and 26.05% compared to the same period last year. These figures indicate that while prices have pulled back, the broader trend remains stronger than it was just a few months ago.
The sudden decline comes after oil prices rose rapidly on concerns over supply disruptions and geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. A sharp correction is not unusual after such a strong rally, as traders often book profits once prices reach higher levels.
