Crude Oil Prices Slump on Renewed Hopes for Middle East Diplomacy
Crude oil prices have taken a hit over the past three days, plummeting more than 5% on Tuesday. The sudden drop in prices can be attributed to renewed hopes of calming tensions in the Gulf region following diplomatic efforts between the US and Iran.
The recent phone calls between Iranian Foreign Minister and his counterparts from Saudi Arabia and Oman have sparked a sense of optimism, easing fears about supply disruptions and bringing some relief to global markets. The price dip follows President Trump's mention of 'deep talks' with Iran, which has paused military action for now, but warns that strikes could return if negotiations fall through.
As a result, Brent crude is currently trading at $80.67 per barrel, while WTI is at $77.83 - both significantly lower than last week's highs when supply worries were high and Brent briefly surged above $100 per barrel.
