Crude Oil Surpasses $100 a Barrel as Stocks Fall
The price of Brent crude oil has surpassed $100 per barrel for the first time since July, causing stocks to fall on Wall Street.
The S&P 500 index fell 0.3%, the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 407 points or 0.8%, and the Nasdaq composite fell 0.4%.
The surge in oil prices has fueled already high inflation, with gasoline prices up about 32% from a year ago to $4.22 per gallon.
