Crude Price Surge and Weaker Rupee Intensify Inflation Risks for India
The ongoing conflict in West Asia has led to a surge in crude oil prices, and a weakening rupee could intensify inflationary pressures in India, according to Emkay Wealth Management.
In its latest Navigator report on Brent crude, Emkay notes that the impact of the conflict on oil-importing economies extends beyond higher crude prices. A weaker rupee alongside elevated oil prices could magnify the domestic impact, said Dr Joseph Thomas, Head of Research at Emkay Wealth Management.
The report highlights the risk of disruption to global oil supply chains, with Brent crude having surged from around $75 a barrel to nearly $98 following renewed hostilities. However, uncertainty over the duration of hostilities and restoration of normal supply routes continues.
