Crude Prices Surge Amid Escalating Hostilities
The S&P 500 Index fell -0.48% on Wednesday, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped -0.77%, and the Nasdaq 100 Index declined -0.29%. The market downturn was attributed to escalating hostilities in the Middle East, which led to a surge in crude oil prices. WTI crude oil prices rose over +3% to a 3.25-month high.
The increase in energy prices boosted inflation expectations and pushed bond yields higher. The 10-year T-note yield reached a 2.75-year high of 4.853%. Higher bond yields weighed on stocks, contributing to the market decline.
Chipmakers and AI-infrastructure stocks gained on Wednesday, limiting losses in the overall market. Energy producers also rose due to stronger crude oil prices.
