Crypto Firms Seek Perpetual Futures for Crude Oil and Natural Gas
Two prominent players in the crypto industry, Hyperliquid Policy Center (HPC) and TradeXYZ, have called on US regulators to formalize perpetual futures for crude oil and natural gas. In a joint comment letter submitted to the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) on August 26, they urged the creation of a framework that allows perpetual futures in the energy sector and 24-hour, seven-day trading.
The two groups cited an example from February when prices moved despite the market being closed over the weekend. They noted that about two-thirds of price moves were reflected on-chain before the benchmark market reopened.
TradeXYZ has seen significant growth since its inception in October 2025, with cumulative trading volume topping $500 billion in markets including West Texas Intermediate (WTI), Brent crude, and Henry Hub natural gas. The group underscored that energy perpetual futures are attracting real demand.
