Cuttack's jewellery stores are seeing brisk sales thanks to a new trend in Raksha Bandhan gifts. Young buyers are opting for reusable ornamental designs, often made with silver filigree or diamond-studded gold, which can be worn as keepsakes by brothers long after the festival.

According to artisans, the demand for these high-end rakhis is so strong that they've been occupied with orders for nearly three months. Prices range from Rs 300 to Rs 4,000 for silver designs and up to Rs 33,000 for diamond-studded gold pieces.

Filagree artist Ajay Kumar Dey noted that the high demand has provided some relief to artisans at a time when rising silver prices have made it difficult for them to purchase raw materials. If silver prices remain stable, the trend could provide a much-needed boost to their earnings.
