Czech Government Prepares to Cap Electricity Prices Amid Record Gas Price Surge

The Czech government is preparing to cap electricity prices if they continue to rise due to the escalating situation in the Middle East, according to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Trade Karel Havlíček.

Havlíček stated that the cabinet is closely monitoring developments on the energy market and is ready to introduce a price cap for producers and traders if electricity prices keep escalating.

The wholesale price of natural gas on the European market has reached a record high of €80 per megawatt-hour, with electricity prices also increasing. Havlíček emphasized that any decision to implement measures would be based on how the situation unfolds in neighboring countries.
