Daewoo E&C Lands Major Mozambique LNG Project Contract
Daewoo Engineering & Construction (Daewoo E&C) has been selected as the prime contractor for the Rovuma LNG Phase 1 project in Mozambique. The project, which is a large-scale liquefied natural gas development project, will involve building a liquefaction facility that produces 18.6 million tons of LNG annually using offshore gas fields in Mozambique.
The 'e-driven' method will be used to drive the facility with electric motors instead of gas turbines, making it an eco-friendly option. A combined cycle gas power plant and ancillary facilities for power supply will also be constructed as part of the project.
Daewoo E&C has received a Letter of Intent (LOI) to perform preliminary engineering, procurement, and constructability review tasks. The LOI is a significant step towards finalizing the Final Investment Decision (FID), which is expected by the end of this year.
An official from Daewoo E&C stated that the order was a result of being recognized for its capability to lead the project on an equal footing with global EPC powerhouses. The company plans to begin full-scale construction work simultaneously with the signing of the main contract at the end of the year.
