Daewoo E&C has been selected as the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractor for Mozambique's 'Rovuma LNG phase 1' project. The company is participating in the SMDC joint venture (JV), which includes Saipem of Italy, McDermott of the United States, CPECC of China, and Daewoo Engineering & Construction. On August 7, 2026, Daewoo E&C announced that it had received a letter of intent (LOI) from ExxonMobil Mozambique for the project.

The SMDC JV will be responsible for building liquefaction facilities capable of producing 18.6 million tons of LNG annually, as well as a large combined cycle gas turbine power plant and other auxiliary infrastructure. The project is expected to begin construction by the end of this year, following a final investment decision (FID).

The 'Rovuma LNG phase 1' project involves ExxonMobil Mozambique, with Daewoo E&C leading the SMDC JV in its bid for the contract.
