Dafnis Brothers Bring New Life to Corfu Olive Oil Sector
In 2010, Corfu's olive oil production was on the brink of collapse. Farmers were abandoning centuries-old groves as if they were worthless.
However, Spyros and George Dafnis envisioned a transformation. They acted, helping to bring life back to the olive groves, villages, and countryside by reinvigorating Corfu's olive oil sector.
The brothers started Olive Fabrica with a modern olive mill and focused on sustainable, organic production of high-quality extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) from the island's native Lianolia variety. They created their brand, The Governor, named after Ioannis Kapodistrias, the first governor of an independent Greece.
Their efforts inspired a revival in Corfu's olive oil sector and inspired other farmers to join them. Today, nearly 300 producers follow the same careful farming procedures, bringing their Lianolia Corfu olives to the Olive Fabrica mill to make award-winning Governor Premium EVOO.
