Damietta Port Shatters Cargo Handling Records in 24-Hour Period
The Damietta Port in Egypt has achieved a remarkable feat, handling 30 vessels and thousands of tons of cargo within a 24-hour period. According to the port's media center, 15 general cargo and container ships arrived at the port over the past day, while 15 vessels departed, bringing the total number of ships undergoing loading and unloading operations to 24.
The port authority reported that general cargo exports reached 13,444 tons, consisting of various commodities such as beet feed, urea, bagged gypsum, clinker, molasses, and miscellaneous goods. In contrast, general cargo imports totaled 26,190 tons, including scrap metal, beech wood, plywood, corn, and diverse goods.
Container traffic also saw significant activity, with 1,002 TEUs exported, 323 TEUs imported, and 2,419 transit TEUs handled. The public sector grain silo at the port held 36,582 tons of wheat, while private sector stores stored 27,390 tons.
The Ro-Ro vessel 'GALLIPOLI SEAWAYS' operating between Damietta and Italy's Trieste departed on Friday after handling a substantial cargo of vegetables, fruits, aluminum cables, textiles, car wiring harnesses, LED switches, connectors, and private cars bound for several European countries and Morocco.
