Data Centers Fueling Western Natural Gas Demand
Data centers are emerging as a significant source of new natural gas load in Western markets. At the recent LDC Gas Forums Rockies & West conference in San Diego, industry experts discussed the growing demand for data centers and their impact on natural gas consumption.
According to Williams, its Power Innovation portfolio in Ohio and Utah exceeds 2 GW, with a focus on providing dedicated generation for data center customers. Aquila is another prominent example, having built a 19-mile pipeline interconnecting the MountainWest and Kern River Gas Transmission systems to support 520 MW of dedicated generation for one customer.
The increasing demand for data centers is driven by the growing need for computing power and storage capacity. As more businesses transition to cloud-based services, data centers are becoming essential infrastructure. The rise of big data and artificial intelligence has also contributed to the surge in demand.
