Delhi Auto Unions Demand Fare Hikes Amid Rising CNG Costs
Auto and taxi unions in Delhi are pressing for fare hikes due to increased costs of compressed natural gas (CNG), which has risen by ₹3.89 per kilogram. This increase is attributed to rising import costs and geopolitical tensions affecting global fuel supplies.
The transport unions argue that current fares are no longer sustainable, making it challenging for them to maintain profitability while serving customers.
A spokesperson from the Delhi Auto Rickshaw and Taxi Union stated, 'With the latest price hike, maintaining profitability while serving our customers has become very challenging.'
Despite efforts by Indraprastha Gas Limited to shield consumers from market fluctuations, unions believe fare hikes are necessary for their members' operational viability.
