Compressed natural gas (CNG) prices in Delhi-NCR have increased by Rs 3.89 per kg, taking CNG to Rs 86.98 per kg in Delhi, effective from Saturday.

The price hike comes amid a global surge in liquefied natural gas (LNG) costs due to renewed tensions in West Asia and winter preparations in Europe.

Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL), the sole CNG supplier in Delhi-NCR, has implemented its fifth CNG price hike this year, citing the steep rise in LNG prices.

The Asia-JKM LNG benchmark has nearly doubled since July, from around $11 per MMBTU to $23.4 in August, while European TTF gas prices have risen from roughly $11.3 to $23.3 per MMBTU over the same period.

The price increase is likely to affect millions of people across Delhi-NCR, who may face higher transportation costs and potentially pass on the additional expense to passengers through increased fares.
