Delhi Transport Bodies Threaten Strike Over CNG Price Hike
The Delhi government is facing pressure from transport associations to revise autorickshaw and taxi fares following a hike in compressed natural gas (CNG) prices. The latest price adjustment by Indraprastha Gas Ltd (IGL) took effect on Saturday, raising retail CNG prices in the national capital to ₹86.98 per kg.
Rates in neighboring NCR cities also saw corresponding increases, with Noida and Ghaziabad moving to ₹95.59 per kg and Gurugram to ₹92.01 per kg. IGL attributed the price hike to a sharp surge in international spot liquefied natural gas (LNG) rates.
Transport operators have issued a one-week deadline to the Delhi government demanding an immediate fare revision or direct CNG subsidies to offset compounding cost pressures. The latest hike extends far beyond fleet budgets, directly squeezing commercial margins and threatening to push up the cost of essential commodities for everyday consumers across urban transit corridors.
